New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) will play a rehab game for Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. Donaldson has been on the injured list since the beginning of April with a hamstring injury, although he is nearing a return to action. Sun May 28 202313:09Josh Donaldson Could See Another Rehab Game On TuesdayJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) could see another minor-league rehab game on Tuesday before joining the team, per manager Aaron Boone. Earlier in the week, Boone told reporters that there was a chance that the 37-year-old slugger could rejoin the Yankees for their series against the Mariners, which kicks off on Monday in Seattle. However, it sounds like he'll need another tune-up game with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks, Donaldson should join the Yankees in the middle of next week. Boone has already stated that Donaldson will return to a full-time role upon his activation.

Wed May 24 202321:45Josh Donaldson Likely To Begin Rehab Assignment ThursdayJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is likely to begin his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Donaldson could rejoin the team for their three-game series in Seattle against the Mariners early next week, but more than likely he won't return until the team plays the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road next weekend. The 37-year-old veteran has been out since early April due to a right-hamstring strain, and he had gone just 2-for-16 (.125) with a solo home run and six strikeouts in five games played before the injury. The expectation is that Donaldson will be the everyday third baseman once he's back, but he'll have to stay healthy first.

Sun May 7 202313:42Josh Donaldson Ramping Up WorkoutsJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) has started to ramp up his workouts at the team's Tampa complex as he attempts to return from a right hamstring injury. The veteran third baseman had a setback a few weeks ago so it's anyone's guess when he'll be ready for a rehab assignment. Given Donaldson's age and lengthy injury history, fantasy managers shouldn't expect him back anytime soon. He slashed .125/.176/.313 over the team's first five games before suffering the injury back in early April.

Pittsburgh Pirates Rich Hill pitched for 5 and 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five batters Friday. Although he managed to strike out the side in the second inning, Hill struggled to keep the Blue Jays from scoring throughout the rest of the game. Hill had allowed only five runs in his four previous starts. However, after Friday's game, his ERA stands at 4.54. Hill is set to face Colorado next week.

Tue May 2 202308:35Josh Donaldson Doing Baseball ActivitiesJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is currently participating in baseball activities. The 37-year-old is hitting, throwing, and has begun a running program. Donaldson is trying to return from a right hamstring strain that he sustained earlier in the season and has kept him out of action since April 5. Over his five games, he's slashing .125/.176/.313 with one home run. Injuries have been an issue for Donaldson lately, as he hasn't played more than 135 games since 2019. The 13-year veteran's fantasy value has diminished since joining the Yankees, and fantasy managers who don't room on the injured list can drop him.

Wed Apr 26 202315:05Eduardo Escobar Returning To Lineup WednesdayEduardo EscobarSSWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Mets third baseman Eduardo Escobar is returning to the starting lineup Wednesday versus Nationals left-hander MacKenzie Gore. It's his first appearance since back on April 20 as the bulk of playing time at the hot corner has gone to youngster Brett Baty. However, with Baty scuffling, it's the veteran's turn to get back into the lineup. Interestingly, Escobar went 2-for-5 with just his second homer of the season the last time he appeared in a game for the Mets while recording at least one hit in three of his last four games. Overall, the 34-year-old is hitting just .145 with two homers and a lowly .477 OPS across 60 plate appearances.

Fri Apr 21 202300:51Yankees Return Josh Donaldson From Rehab AssignmentJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
The New York Yankees returned infielder Josh Donaldson (hamstring) from his minor-league rehab assignment on Thursday. Donaldson's current rehab assignment will come to an end, but he won't be returning to the Yankees' big-league roster just yet. The 37-year-old veteran has had a setback while recovering from a right hamstring strain and is waiting for the results of another MRI exam. It's a disappointing development for Donaldson, who was already off to a poor start in 2023 after a bad season in 2022 for the Yankees. Until Donaldson returns, expect DJ LeMahieu to see most of the starts at third base, which has opened up playing time for young infielder Oswald Peraza at the keystone in the Bronx. It remains to be seen how much longer Donaldson will be out.

Brett BatyFree Agent
The New York Mets are keeping third baseman Brett Baty on the bench to start Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The top prospect, fresh from the minors, made his Major League debut on Monday, going 1-for-4 with a single. Southpaw Clayton Kershaw is on the mound for the Dodgers, so switch hitter Eduardo Escobar will play third base instead and bat eighth. The 34-year-old is only batting .125 with one homer over 14 games this season. However, Escobar slashed .259/.299/.519 against lefties in 2022, so fantasy managers might want to take a chance on him.

Mon Apr 17 202314:15Yankees To Ease Josh Donaldson Back InJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) will be the team's starting third baseman when he returns from the injured list, possibly as soon as this Wednesday. However, Boone also said he will ease Donaldson back into the lineup after two weeks off, and he could cycle through the designated hitter spot with Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) now on the IL. As of right now, DJ LeMahieu is the starter at the hot corner, but Donaldson remains a high-level defender at the position. But if Donaldson continues to struggle at the plate, the Yankees could consider cutting him despite still owing him $27 million. The Yankees will give Donaldson time to turn things around, but they could get impatient if he continues to struggle.

Mon Apr 17 202312:06Josh Donaldson Could Return WednesdayJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is scheduled to play in a minor-league rehab game on Tuesday, April 18, for Double-A Somerset, and he could be activated from the 10-day injured list on Wednesday, April 19. He was able to work out on the field at Yankee Stadium last Thursday, and manager Aaron Boone said that Donaldson "looked really good; I just watched him take ground balls, and I thought that looked really good. I heard his BP looked really good. He's feeling good. Now it's just a matter of when (he will be activated)." Hopefully, the 37-year-old will be able to pick things up at the plate when he returns, as he had just two hits in his first 16 at-bats with a solo home run and six strikeouts before landing on the injured list.

Sat Apr 8 202312:05Josh Donaldson Lands On 10-Day Injured ListJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) landed on the 10-day injured list on Saturday, retroactive to April 6. The veteran tweaked his right hamstring during Wednesday's meeting against the Orioles. Donaldson has struggled this season, batting a miserable .125 with two hits, one RBI, and one homer (16 at-bats) while striking out six times, so his absence should have little impact on the fantasy end. Nevertheless, time off may do the 37-year-old some good. But in the meantime, DJ LeMahieu should handle most of the work at the hot corner.

Fri Apr 7 202314:58Josh Donaldson Likely To Land On Injured ListJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the 10-day injured list, according to manager Aaron Boone. The 37-year-old was pulled from Wednesday's game due to right hamstring tightness. At first, the Yankees didn't believe it was serious, but it sounds like they've changed their mind. They don't want to take any risks this early in the season. That being said, Donaldson is likely to miss a week or two of action. DJ LeMahieu is expected to take over at the hot corner until Donaldson is healthy again.

Fri Apr 7 202312:17Josh Donaldson Not In Friday's LineupJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) is not in the starting lineup on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. Donaldson tweaked his hamstring in Wednesday's game and will remain out of action on Friday despite having a day off on Thursday. The Yankees don't think his injury is serious, though, so the 37-year-old could be back as soon as Saturday. Donaldson is off to a slow start in 2023, going 2-for-16 (.125) with a solo home run and six strikeouts in five games played. DJ LeMahieu is starting at the hot corner and hitting leadoff for the Yanks against Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer on Friday.

Wed Apr 5 202323:42Josh Donaldson's Injury Not Expected To Be SeriousJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone said, "I don't think it's too severe" when asked about third baseman Josh Donaldson's (hamstring) injury. Donaldson was pulled from Wednesday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies with right hamstring tightness and could have an MRI exam on Thursday, but the injury doesn't appear to be very severe. The Yankees have an off day on Thursday, so there's a chance the 37-year-old could be back in the lineup as soon as Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. The three-time All-Star is off to a poor start in 2023 as he looks to bounce back from a frustrating season last year in his first season in the Bronx. Through four games, Donaldson has gone 2-for-15 (.133) with a solo home run, a walk and six strikeouts.

Wed Apr 5 202315:14Josh Donaldson Dealing With Hamstring TightnessJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
Updating a previous report, New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson (hamstring) left Wednesday's game early against the Philadelphia Phillies with right hamstring tightness. He will be re-evaluated on Thursday and should be considered day-to-day for now. The Yankees do not play on Thursday, so there's a chance that the 37-year-old veteran will return on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles. Hopefully his injury doesn't keep him out too long, as he's already off to a rough start at the plate, going 2-for-15 (.133) with a homer, RBI, one walk and six strikeouts entering Wednesday's game. Fantasy managers will want to check back on Friday to see if he has recovered enough to play.

Wed Apr 5 202314:10Josh Donaldson Departs Early WednesdayJosh DonaldsonCAthleticsFree Agent
New York Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson left Wednesday's game early with what appeared to be a leg injury. Isiah Kiner-Falefa replaced him at third base. Donaldson is off to a slow start this season, going just 2-for-15 (.133) with one home run and one walk across 16 trips to the plate prior to Wednesday's contest. It's a concerning start considering the 37-year-old endured a down 2022 season when he hit just .222 with 15 HR and a .682 OPS across 132 games. His bat graded out worse than the league average for the first time since the 2012 season as per his 97 wRC+. An update on his status should be available before Friday's series opener versus the Baltimore Orioles following the postponement of Thursday's game due to inclement weather.

Sun Mar 26 202312:00Rich Hill Scratched With Illness SundayRich HillRPRed SoxFree Agent
Pittsburgh Pirates left-hander Rich Hill (illness) was scratched from his Grapefruit League outing on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves due to an illness, according to the team. Wil Crowe will start in his place. It would be a surprise if Hill isn't ready for the start of the 2023 regular season. In just three spring starts, Hill has allowed six earned runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out six in eight innings pitched. The 43-year-old veteran southpaw ended up starting 26 games for the Boston Red Sox in 2022 and wasn't half bad, but there's just no fantasy upside here, especially now that he's pitching for one of the worst teams in baseball. Look elsewhere in fantasy.

Mon Feb 27 202315:27Eduardo Escobar Could Play Left Field TuesdayEduardo EscobarSSWhite SoxFree Agent
New York Mets manager Buck Showalter said that third baseman Eduardo Escobar might play left field in a Grapefruit League game on Tuesday. The Mets are preparing Escobar in the outfield because Team Venezuela might use him in the outfield in this year's World Baseball Classic. The 34-year-old veteran is unlikely to see any time in the outfield for the Mets in 2023, though. The switch-hitter hit 20 home runs in his first season with the Mets in 2022, but he also slashed a disappointing .240/.295/.430 with a .726 OPS, 69 RBI and 58 runs scored in 542 plate appearances over 136 games. Escobar finished the year strong, but he also had a career-worst 23.8 percent strikeout rate. If he stays healthy, he should be a solid option for fantasy managers at third base in one of the best lineups in baseball.
